One enrolment can block all online gambling accounts within the selected provincial program scope. Ontario and Alberta use different terms and scope choices, so the correct provincial route matters.

One BetGuard enrolment blocks access to every regulated online gambling website and app in Ontario, including OLG.ca.

Available terms

Choose 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term from 6 months to 5 years. The term cannot be shortened, but it can be extended.

Before you start

The person enrolling completes the process online and verifies their identity with government-issued photo ID, facial recognition and multi-factor authentication.

  • A valid government-issued photo ID other than a health card
  • A permanent address in Canada or the United States
  • A cellphone number
  • An email address

An existing self-exclusion with one gambling site does not automatically enrol the player in BetGuard.

Alberta

Self-Exclusion Program

Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis

One Alberta agreement can cover all registered iGaming platforms, all land-based casinos and racing entertainment centres, or both categories together.

Available terms

Choose 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years. The agreement cannot be cancelled or changed before its expiry date.

Before you start

Online sign-up is available at any time and must be completed by the person being excluded. In-person registration is also available at an Alberta casino or racing entertainment centre.

  • The full name exactly as it appears on government-issued identification
  • Date of birth, height, weight and the other requested identifying details
  • A portrait-style headshot or selfie
  • Acceptance of the program terms and conditions

The online exclusion applies only when an option that includes regulated iGaming is selected during enrolment.

The selected exclusion starts immediately after the agreement is signed.

Do not assume an online exclusion automatically covers land-based venues.

Ontario

All regulated Ontario online gambling

The exclusion covers every current and future regulated online gambling website and app in Ontario, including OLG.ca. It does not cover land-based casinos.

Alberta

All registered iGaming platforms

This option excludes the player from all registered iGaming platforms in Alberta, without adding a land-based venue exclusion.

All land-based casinos and racing entertainment centres

This option excludes the player from Alberta casinos and racing entertainment centres, without adding an iGaming exclusion.

iGaming platforms and land-based venues

This option combines all registered iGaming platforms with all Alberta casinos and racing entertainment centres.

Expiry Works Differently in Each Province

Neither program allows early cancellation. What happens after the selected date is not the same.

Ontario

At the selected end date, choose a new term or remove the exclusion. If neither choice is made, the central exclusion continues for seven years after that date.

Alberta

The agreement remains active until its expiry date. Post-expiry account access and any separate reinstatement step: unknown.
